Chicken Cordon Bleu Crock Pot Ingredients

Here are the ingredients you will need to make crockpot chicken and stuffing:

    • Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts - you could also use boneless skinless chicken thighs if preferred. Your cooking time may decrease due to their smaller size.
    • Condensed Cream of Chicken Soup
    • Chicken Broth - any brand or variety, such as low sodium or reduced fat, work great!
    • Sliced Ham - thinly sliced ham works best in this recipe. Stop at your local deli for your favorite variety.
    • Swiss Cheese - you can use presliced or slice your own. You can also use regular, baby swiss, or a variety you prefer.
    • Boxed Seasoned Stuffing Mix - use any favorite brand, Stovetop stuffing mix is quite common.

How To Make It Crock Pot Chicken Cordon Bleu

Here are the step-by-step instructions for making this crockpot chicken and stuffing:

    Combine Liquids

Mix your cream of chicken soup and chicken broth in a small bowl together until combined.

Spray the inside of your crockpot with nonstick spray.

    Layer in the Crockpot

Spread one quarter of the soup and broth mixture on the bottom of the slow cooker.

Top with chicken breasts, then layer the ham and cheese, then the remaining soup mixture followed by the dry stuffing mix.

    Slow Cook

Drizzle melted butter over the top, cover, and cook on low 4 to 6 hours or until the chicken is cooked through. (2 to 3 hours on high).

Chicken is done when the internal temperature is checked with an instant-read thermometer, and it reads 165 degrees F or higher.

Scoop out a little stuffing with each chicken breast onto a plate and serve with canned green beans, frozen green beans, or fresh green beans.

    How To Serve It

Here are a few ways to serve this crockpot chicken and stuffing:

Garnish with a dollop of sour cream, chopped chives, green onion, and crumbled bacon. Yum!

Meal idea! Serve with green beans or even mashed potatoes.

Chicken Cordon Bleu Slow Cooker Variations

Here are a few ways you can customize or make substitutions to this recipe:

    • One pot meal: Get your veggies in too! Add a can of drained green beans after you layer the ham and cheese slices but before adding the stuffing.
    • Substitute the chicken breasts with chicken thighs if you prefer! You could also try this recipe with pork chops. Cook it the same way but check for an internal temperature on the pork chops to be 145 degrees F when done.
    • Use cream of mushroom soup or cream of celery soup instead of cream of chicken soup. You can also use a combination of any for variety.
    • Replace any ingredients in this recipe with the one you would prefer!

    Top Tips

    • Make sure to check the internal temperature of your chicken breasts at 165 degrees or higher using an instant-read thermometer.
    • If some of the stuffing did not absorb juices, ladle a spoonful the juices from the pot over the top and fluff lightly with a fork.

    FAQs

    How To Store

Allow your leftovers to cool and transfer them to an airtight container, and store them in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

    How To Reheat

Place your leftovers into a microwave-safe dish and heat on high until your chicken has reached an internal temperature of 165 degrees or higher.

    How To Freeze

Transfer to an airtight container and cool uncovered to let any warmth and moisture escape.  Cover and freeze your leftovers for up to 3 months.

Is it OK to put raw chicken in a slow cooker?

Yes, most definitely.  Crock pots may heat slowly and low, but eventually, in time, with the heat and steam of the crock, bacteria are eliminated.  Frozen chicken can be used as well and if you’re unsure, cook your chicken to an internal temperature of no less than 165 degrees!

Is it better to cook chicken breasts on low or high in slow cooker?

Personally, I find cooking chicken breasts slowly on low heat results in a much more juicy, tender result.  On high, chicken breasts can become a bit chewy, dry, and tough, in my opinion.

Can you cook chicken in a crock pot without adding liquid?

Only a small amount of liquid is needed when cooking chicken in a crock pot. All the ingredients will release their own juices during the cooking process. This recipe needs liquid to help moisten the stuffing as well.
