    The backstory.

I wanted a chicken paprikash recipe that didn't require extra steps or a long ingredient list. This version was built for real life-simple ingredients, a quart slow cooker, and the kind of cozy paprika flavor that turns an ordinary weeknight into a comfort-food win.

Slow cooker chicken paprika is a must make.

This crockpot chicken paprika earns its place among our favorite chicken recipes for a few solid reasons.

    • Easy 6-ingredient recipe. This slow cooker recipe proves you don't need a long list to make a satisfying dinner.
    • Minimal prep time. Everything goes straight into the crock pot, making this an easy slow cooker win.
    • Family-friendly comfort. Creamy paprika sauce and tender cooker chicken make this a reliable favorite.
    • Flexible cooker recipe. Works with chicken thighs, chicken breasts, or any skinless chicken you have on hand.

    Let's talk flavor and texture.

This dish is rich, creamy, and gently savory with classic paprikash vibes. Hungarian paprika builds warmth into the paprika sauce, while sour cream smooths everything out into a creamy paprika finish. The chicken cooks low and slow until fork-tender, soaking up every bit of flavor.

    What you'll need.

    • Creamy base: Cream of chicken soup and sour cream create the creamy paprika sauce.
    • Aromatics: Onion adds flavor without overpowering.
    • Seasoning: Salt and pepper round everything out.
    • Optional garnish: Fresh parsley or sliced green onions.

    Kori's tips.

    • Use a small bowl to temper the sour cream so doesn't curdle and blends smoothly.
    • This cooker recipe thickens best near the end with the lid off.
    • Let the dish rest for a few minutes before serving so the sauce settles.

    Notes

For more helpful hints, substitution ideas, slow cooking tips, and other delicious recipe ideas, check out my post above.
CROCKPOT COOKING TIPS: Every slow cooker heats a little differently, so cooking times can vary. Once you know how your crock pot runs (hotter or cooler), you can adjust as needed.
TIPS: Temper the sour cream with hot cooking liquid before adding it to keep the sauce smooth. If the sauce is thinner than you like, use the cornstarch slurry near the end of cooking and leave the lid off to help it thicken.
VARIATIONS: Smoked paprika can be used in place of regular paprika for a deeper flavor. Chicken breasts or bone-in chicken can be substituted for chicken thighs, and vegetables like carrots or potatoes can be added if desired.
SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Serve over egg noodles, mashed potatoes, riced cauliflower, or mashed cauliflower. Garnish with fresh parsley or sliced green onions and pair with a simple vegetable such as green beans or peas.
