Why You'll Love Crock Pot Asparagus

Easy Side Dish. You can easily pair this recipe with so many main protein options! I love to pair asparagus with chicken, steak, pork, or even burgers - SO good!

Five Ingredients. Simple, easy-to-follow recipes with minimal ingredients are always ones that I go back to often! I always have lemons, butter, herbs, and seasonings on hand. Just pick up some fresh asparagus, and you're ready!

Adjustable Quantity. This recipe can be doubled or even tripled for any size party you need to feed. You can also adjust any seasonings or herbs in this recipe as you like.

    Asparagus in Crock Pot Ingredients

Ingredients needed for making crockpot asparagus.

Here are the ingredients you will need to make this crockpot asparagus recipe:

    • Fresh Asparagus: look for asparagus with stalks that are "medium-sized". Too thick of a stalk may be more "woody" in texture, and too small may overcook easily.
    • Fresh Lemon: I find fresh squeezed lemon juice gives the best result. You can use store-bought as well to save time.
    • Butter: you can use salted or unsalted.
    • Salt
    • Ground Black Pepper

For exact ingredient quantities, please see the recipe card below!

    Variations

    • Use half a cup of vegetable or chicken broth instead of butter if desired. You can also substitute butter with olive oil.
    • Add other fresh vegetables to your crockpot if desired. Other great additions could be sliced onions, fresh green beans, broccoli, and even sugar snap peas for a green medley.
    • Add a kick by adding some crushed red pepper flakes, chipotle powder, or any of your other favorites!
    • Adjust any seasonings to your liking. Add some garlic powder, onion powder, or dried herb blends for some ideas.

How To Cook Asparagus in Crock Pot

Here's how to cook fresh asparagus in crock pot:

adding all the ingredients to a white oval crock pot.

    1. Place asparagus into the crockpot. Top with lemon juice, salt, pepper, and butter.

Covering and slow cooking asparagus in a white crock pot until done.

    2. Cook on low until done, about 2 hours.

Hint: Cook your asparagus until you reach your desired doneness. Some like it more al dente meaning it has a bit of a bite to it yet. You may need to reduce or increase your cooking time until you like.

    How to Serve It

There are several ways you can serve your slow cooked fresh asparagus!

    • Serve with shredded parmesan cheese on top.
    • Garnish with fresh chopped herbs such as parsley, dill, or any of your favorites!
    • Serve directly from the crockpot or place evenly spaced out on a baking sheet and put under the broiler for a few minutes to melt the parmesan cheese and crisp it up.
    • Meal idea!  Grill or roast some boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs and serve with a side of roasted sweet potatoes and slow cooker asparagus as your vegetable side dish. So good!

    Slow Cooker Tips

Use frozen asparagus instead of fresh. Be sure to increase your cooking time until your desired temperature is met. Keep in mind when frozen, there may be extra liquid when done.

Turn your slow cooker on high to reduce your cooking time.

Your seasoning may not stick to the asparagus in the crockpot. I suggest seasoning once on the plate as well to keep it well-seasoned and delicious!

    FAQ's

    How to Store

Drain the extra liquid from the asparagus and then place it into an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

    How to reheat

Reheat in a microwave-safe bowl in the microwave in 30-second increments until your desired temperature is done.

Is it better to peel asparagus before cooking?

It is not a necessary thing to do before cooking your asparagus. Just be sure to clean your vegetables before cooking. If desired, you can peel the stalk of the asparagus, which helps tenderness of the stalk.

What is the best way to cook and eat asparagus?

This is a difficult question because it can be cooked and eaten in so many different ways. One of my favorite ways to prepare asparagus is by boiling it until it is bright green and then blanching it in an ice-water bath. Many people prefer asparagus so that it has a bit of a bite to it after cooking and is not mushy. Blanching helps prevent it from becoming mushy.
