Green Bean Casserole Slow Cooker Ingredients
Here are the ingredients you will need to make this slow cooker green bean casserole:
- Condensed Cream of Mushroom Soup: use store-bought or make your own to make it gluten-free.
- Milk: use any kind of milk, from skim milk to creamy oat milk or half and half.
- Soy Sauce: use low sodium or regular. You can substitute with coconut aminos or tamari--both taste as good as soy sauce but are gluten-free.
- French Fried Onions
- Frozen Green Beans: After multiple tests I found that frozen cut green beans work best in this recipe for flavor and convenience. They have a much fresher taste than canned, and because they are already prepped and parboiled, you can just toss them in.
- Seasonings: ground black pepper and garlic powder.

Substitutions and Variations
- While I think frozen cut green beans yielded the best results, you can substitute the frozen green beans with canned or trimmed fresh green beans. If you use canned you can reduce your cooking time. If you use fresh green beans, you may need to lengthen the amount of time needed.
- To add a little brightness, stir in sour cream or squeeze in a little lemon juice after cooking. If you use sour cream you may need to warm the casserole a little longer.
- Vegetable or chicken broth can be used in place of the milk.
- Adjust any seasonings to taste.
- Add other vegetables such as fresh mushrooms, diced onion and fresh garlic.
- Garnish with crumbled cooked bacon.
- Before serving, add in shredded cheddar cheese and garnish on top.

FAQ's
Once cooled transfer to an air tight container and store in the fridge for up to 4 days.
Transfer the portion you want to reheat to a microwave-safe dish. Cover and heat in 30-second increments (on 50% power) until the desired temperature is met.
Overcooking the green beans is what makes it mushy. If the green beans aren't mushy but the sauce is too thick then stir in extra milk or broth.
There are benefits to both options. Canned green beans will cook a lot faster since they are already soft - so if you're in a hurry, use those. Frozen provide a much fresher taste and hold their integrity longer, so they can cook for longer periods of time if needed.
Yes! You can prep the casserole directly in the crockpot insert the night before and refrigerate overnight. Cook until the beans are tender and the casserole is bubbly.
