The backstory.
I love firing up the grill, but there are days when I just don't have the time to babysit ribs for hours. That's where this recipe comes in. Cooking ribs with Dr Pepper in the slow cooker gives you incredibly tender baby back ribs with hardly any hands-on work. Finish them with your favorite BBQ sauce, and you'll have ribs that taste like you spent all afternoon tending the smoker.
It's a must make.
When you want barbecue without spending the day tending a smoker, crockpot Dr Pepper ribs are hard to beat. A few simple ingredients and your slow cooker do almost all the work.
- Only 4 ingredients. A handful of pantry staples transforms into a dinner that's big on flavor without a long shopping list.
- Fall off the bone tender. Slow cooking gives the ribs plenty of time to become juicy and fork tender.
- Sweet and savory flavor. The Dr Pepper adds subtle sweetness that pairs perfectly with smoky pork rub and tangy BBQ sauce.
- Easy enough for busy days. Let the slow cooker handle the hard work, then finish the ribs in just a few minutes under the broiler or on the grill.
Let's talk flavor and texture.
Every bite is loaded with smoky, sweet, and slightly salty flavor. The homemade pork rub creates a savory crust while the Dr Pepper keeps the meat moist as it cooks low and slow. Once brushed with BBQ sauce and caramelized, the edges become sticky and lightly charred while the inside stays juicy, tender, and practically melts off the bone.

- Handle them gently - They'll be very tender after slow cooking, so use tongs and a large spatula when transferring them.
- Watch the broiler closely - The BBQ sauce caramelizes quickly, so keep an eye on the ribs to prevent burning.
- Make extra homemade pork rub - Store leftovers in a sealed jar so it's ready for your next batch of ribs.
