    Substitutions and Variations

    • Make it dairy-free by using creamy oat milk or almond milk.
    • Use low-fat or fat-free ingredients if desired--this may reduce how creamy your hot chocolate will be.
    • Add flavored syrups to your hot chocolate, such as mint, caramel, hazelnut, or raspberry.
    • Use additional chocolate chips or chocolate syrup to increase the chocolate flavor.
    • Use a sugar-free sweetener like allulose or stevia, and use unsweetened evaporated milk to swap out for sweetened condensed milk.
    • Use any chocolate chips you want! You can also use Hershey's chocolate bars if you have them on hand! You can also use a combination of chips for layers of flavor.

    Tips

    • If your hot chocolate gets too thick, add a splash of milk or cream to thin it to your desired consistency.

    FAQ's

    How to store it

Once cooled transfer your leftovers in an air tight container in the fridge for up to 3 days.

    How to reheat

You can reheat in a mug in the microwave in 30 second increments until your desired temperature is met.

Does adding milk to hot chocolate make it better?

Milk adds fat content to your hot chocolate which makes it richer and creamier. The flavor and mouthfeel is better than using water.

How do you thicken milk for hot chocolate?

You can add a cornstarch slurry to your hot chocolate if you want it to be thicker. A cornstarch slurry is a 1:1 ratio of cornstarch and water or milk. Start with a tablespoon of each and combine before adding to the hot chocolate. Add more if needed.

How do you keep hot chocolate warm for a crowd?

Keep your hot chocolate in the crockpot for serving and set to "keep warm" to keep it hot for longer.
