    The backstory.

This recipe came together on one of those days when dinner needed a solid side dish, but effort had to stay low. I wanted something familiar and cozy that didn't require extra steps or babysitting. Tossing a handful of pantry staples into the crock pot and letting them turn into a creamy, cheesy potato dish felt like exactly the kind of dinner win Slow Cooked Eats is all about.

    It's a must make.

Crockpot cheesy potatoes are one of those easy, comfort-food side dishes you'll make once-and then keep in your back pocket forever.

    • 5-ingredient easy. With just baby potatoes, ranch seasoning, sour cream, and cheese, it's the kind of recipe that feels almost too simple to be this good.
    • Creamy and cheesy. The sauce turns rich and smooth as it cooks, coating every bite without needing extra fuss.
    • Crockpot win. The cooker does the heavy lifting, so you can focus on the rest of dinner (or literally anything else).
    • Perfect for sharing. This dish stays warm and creamy in the crock pot, which makes it ideal for potlucks and family meals.

    Let's talk flavor and texture.

This crock pot cheesy potatoes recipe cooks up tender with a soft, creamy bite that holds together beautifully. The ranch seasoning adds savory depth, while the cheese creates a smooth, rich sauce that coats every potato. Stirring in sour cream at the end gives the dish a subtle tang and extra creaminess without feeling heavy.

    What you'll need.

Ingredients needed to make crockpot cheesy potatoes on a white marble countertop.

This recipe keeps things simple with easy-to-find ingredients that work together beautifully.

    • Baby potatoes: Red or gold baby potatoes hold their shape and cook evenly in the crock pot.
    • Ranch seasoning: One packet gives you bold, savory flavor with no extra measuring.
    • Condensed cheddar cheese soup: This is the shortcut to a creamy, cheesy base that turns into a smooth sauce as it cooks.
    • Sour cream: Stirred in at the end for extra creaminess and just the right tang.
    • Shredded cheddar cheese: Melts into the dish for that gooey, cheesy finish.
    • Optional garnish: Chopped parsley or green onion adds a fresh pop on top.

For exact ingredient quantities, please see the recipe card below!

How to make cheesy crockpot potatoes.

This recipe starts with a quick stir and finishes with a simple mix-in at the end, while the crockpot does the rest.

    3. Spoon the condensed cheddar cheese soup over everything and gently stir until the potatoes are evenly coated.

Freezing isn't recommended because the cream and cheese sauce can separate when thawed.
