Wassail brings back wonderful memories of the holidays and cold chilly nights. You'll love this traditional wassail with a twist - cranberry juice. The perfect combination of juices and spices bring cozy comfort and will fill your home with a wonderful aroma. Serves a crowd and can easily be doubled.
4cupswater(2 cups hot brewed black tea can be used in place of water)
⅛teaspoonground nutmeg
3cinnamon sticks
2teaspoonswhole cloves
2(optional) anise star pods
(optional: add in or serve with alcohol such as red wine, brandy, sherry, rum, or other to taste)
for serving: a few orange and apple slices to float on top
Instructions
Add all ingredients to a 6-quart crockpot. Stir. (Tip: For easy removal of spices later, wrap them in cheesecloth tied with a string. Hang the string on the side of the pot and use the crockpot lid to hold it in place.)
Cover and cook on low for 3 to 4 hours or until hot. Remove spices with a sieve before serving.

VARIATIONS: Brew 2 cups of black tea and use in place of water. Spike it with brandy, bourbon, whiskey, or spiced rum. Additional spices such as ginger and nutmeg may be used (add a little at a time).
SERVING SUGGESTIONS: Serve directly out of the crockpot, keeping it warm pn the low or warm setting. Float apple and orange slices for garnish.
